Small Business Week: TaxJar customers making big impacts

by Sarah Craig

National Small Business Week reminds us to celebrate small businesses and the contributions they make to our economy. They may be small, but they are mighty. According to a report from the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, small businesses create two-thirds of net new jobs in the United States. And in 2019, the World Trade Organization reported that small and medium-sized companies represent over 90% of the business environment and 55% of the GDP in developed countries. Small businesses aren’t just part of our economy, they are a huge part of the success of our economy.

This week we’re happy to showcase TaxJar customers making big impacts in the world as a small business. We’re proud to be enabling ecommerce by making sales tax compliance easier for small and big businesses everywhere.

Splendid Spoon

Splendid Spoon creates plant-based meals ordered right to your door and helps customers reach their goal of a healthier lifestyle. From smoothies to soups and grain bowls, Splendid Spoon makes it easy to eat good food. And truthfully, aren’t we all tired of asking, “What’s for dinner tonight?”

With five different plan options, they have something to fit every lifestyle. Splendid Spoon also works hard to support sustainability efforts with 100% recyclable packaging. In addition, according to Splendid Spoon, eating just one plant-based meal a week reduces greenhouse gases equivalent to those produced by driving 1,160 miles. That’s good news that tastes good, too! Check out Splendid Spoon and support a small business doing big things.

Stormy Kromer

Established in 1903, Stormy Kromer has been creating hats and apparel that embodies the personality of the midwest. Curious about the name? We were too! Turns out, it all started when George “Stormy” Kromer, a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer kept losing his hat while on the train. His wife, Ida, sewed an ear band on a ball cap to keep his ears warm and his cap in place. Fast forward to 2021 and the company is still creating unique hats while also expanding their product line to include apparel and bags for the adventurous.

A family owned company based out of Ironwood, Michigan, Stormy Kromer gives back to other American small businesses by ensuring the majority of their manufacturing work is done in the United States. Speaking of employees, Stormy Kromer’s team works hard to create quality products whether it’s a hat, a bag, or a face mask. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Stormy Kromer employees pivoted quickly to begin creating face masks and coverings to support the fight against the virus, sometimes working over 10 hours a day to ensure they had enough face masks completed to meet order volume. That’s commitment! A small business with a giant heart, supporting Stormy Kromer is easy, fun, and fashionable.
