  • Hi There,

I’m not sure, but this would be a great question to ask your fellow online sellers in our Sales Tax for eCommerce Seller Facebook Group. You can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SalesTax4EcommerceSellers/

We are an LLC doing FBA with Amazon. We are currently trying to fill out the New Jersey registration, and we are required to provide a 10-digit ID on the first page. We are not sure what this ID number is though?

    Thank you!

    • Hi Allen,

People have covered this in our Facebook Group and so I went to see what they had to say. It seems like your best bet with New Jersey is to call them at one of these numbers and have them walk you through it:

      1-609-943-5000 or 1-609-292-6400

You can also join the Facebook group and see what other people have had to say about NJ here:

So I’m not sure if this will be successful because I’m in the process of doing it myself, but maybe this will help others since I’ve been really confused about NJ. I called the helpline to see how i can circumvent the online registration for a business (which came with ridiculous fees) and the rep told me to download this form and mail it in to register as an out-of-state business. http://www.nj.gov/treasury/revenue/forms/njreg.pdf

What I’m not quite sure is if they will give me a 10-digit ID to complete the sales and use tax license registration, or if they will automatically just send me the sales and use tax license. I asked the rep what would happen and she just said ‘that’s it, just send it in they’ll take care of it.’ so a bit vague, but we’ll see…

Hi, I will set up an e-commerce business in NJ so my tax nexus will be NJ. However, I am only planning to sell my products to customers outside of the US. My understanding is that I still need to register for a sales tax permit in NJ and file sales tax with zero return. Did I understand it correctly? Thanks! this website is really helpful.

  • FYI The link for the Online Tax/Employer Registration page in the article above returns “Not Found”

    • Thanks for the catch, Jonathan! This changed at the end of November and I updated it.

  • Shalom

I need to obtain a NJ resale permit.

Can someone please confirm what “Entity ID” (the NJ registration page asks for) means?
Also do I must have a Tax ID or I can register with a social?

    Thanks for any help!
